Meet Giggles
Giggles is 5 years old and has leukemia, which means she has cancer in her blood. Some of her blood cells make too many copies of themselves, leading to small tumors in her veins – and these tumors go all over her body. Giggles gets a very strong form of medicine known as chemotherapy, a treatment that kills cancer cells; the treatment is so strong that it can give her other problems, but she takes all of it with a smile.
Giggles lives in San Francisco with her mom, dad, and two older brothers. When she is in the hospital, she’s everyone’s favorite patient – she likes to make clothes, dance, and film herself.
Giggles is close with Noelle as they go through very similar treatments at the hospital. The two of them are like sisters, and they help each other get through their time in the hospital together. As the Giggler, she is Noelle’s sidekick. Giggles is very powerful, but her powers are hard for her to control – they might even come out in front of adults. Sometimes when giggles laughs, it makes everyone in the hospital laugh, and when she cries the lights will flicker. Noelle is helping Giggles to fully understand her powers.
