Asthma

Asthma is a kind of lung disease.

It can cause trouble breathing, coughing, and a wheezing sound.

The tubes which carry the air into and out of the lungs get swollen and make mucus. This swelling causes the lung airways to become very narrow.

Air gets trapped in the lungs, making it hard to breathe out and causing a wheezing sound.

Asthma can be mild or severe and life-threatening.

The trouble breathing, coughing and wheezing symptoms may come and go. An episode of asthma may be triggered by substances in the environment
like smog, pollen, and smoke.

Doctors will ask questions about your breathing, what seems to make it better and worse, and listen carefully to your lungs. You may have other
tests like an x-ray of your lungs or breathing tests.

There are many treatments for asthma including inhalers and pills.

With the right treatments and avoidance of triggers, asthma can be well-managed.
